Wahoo!
I can’t wait for my little box up top right to flash orange once I post this, Indicating my 100th post! I’m starting to become venerable. Here’s a list of lessons my time blogging about video games has taught me. Hope you enjoy, and stick around for the next hundred posts!
Lesson One: The Blogosphere is huge, but not to be feared.
It’s daunting, throwing your voice into the cauldron of millions of people who blog, but don’t let that deter you in any way. The vast, vast majority of people who blog are genuinely sound people who are just as passionate about writing as you are. If you reach out to these people with comments and likes, if you interact with them in any way, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at just how nice they are.
There are millions of bloggers out there, but we’re gentle folk with a shared passion. Don’t be afraid of plunging headfirst into the community.
Lesson Two: Hitting “publish” is better than chocolate.
Few things in life give me as much satisfaction than hitting publish on my latest 600+ word article that I spent an hour on. In school if I’m told to write 400 words on 1870 politics in Ireland, or the poetry of Mahon, I’ll groan and moan for every word. Personally, I think if there was a publish word at the end of each essay I’d enjoy it all the more. Who knew such a small incentive could make such a difference?
Lesson Three: Video Games have given me an endless well to draw from.
I can’t see myself ever running out of material to write about. The video game industry is expanding so rapidly and pumping out so many games that I could never talk about everything I wanted to. There’s always a new title, a latest controversy and an opinion piece waiting to be researched. I’ve never needed a daily prompt to inspire me yet, and I doubt that will change.
Long Live Video Games!
-Michael
Congratulations on the 100 posts. And Long live video games, here here!
On your last point, I find that if I’m struggling for ideas I just spark up a gaming conversation with one of my friends, an hour later I have a whole list of things to talk about!
I’m the same, I’ll just bring a mate over or kill some zombies with my brother. Instant dialogues and fresh material!
Congratulations on 100 posts, I made my first post yesterday as you know, so hoping I’ll reach 100 posts too someday. Oh and I agree with you on all three lessons!
Long live video games and long live ninetyninepercentgaming 🙂
Cheers Mooney 🙂
I gotta ask – is your name and gravatar a nod to HP? If so, your awesome.
I love the HP books and movie, but no that’s not why I picked the name, my lastname is Måned (which roughly translates to Moonoath). So Mooney seemed like a good nick to pick, but I’ll take it as a compliment that you compared me to that Mooney =)
Congratulations on the 100th post. Hitting publish is much better than chocolate, but just chocolate. 🙂
Gotta know where to draw the line 😀
Wow congrats! 100 posts is a huge accomplishment. Check out my video game blog if you’re interested. ❤ allyoucangame.wordpress.com
