Welcome to the first of many monster hunting guides for Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate. Capcom’s latest entry in the cult hit series is packed with tons of creatures and subspecies. These guides will help familiarize you with the various foes you’ll be fighting. (For my review of MH3U, click here.)
Up first we have everyone’s favourite songbird, the iconic Qurupeco.
The Qurupeco is a small wyvern, the first most hunters will encounter. It is recognizable by it’s vivid plumage, orange beak and collapsible throat. It has flint-like endings to it’s wings which it can strike together to create small bursts of fire, and has the ability to imitate other creature’s calls to lure in backup. While not a particularly powerful monster, it can provide a challenge to up and coming hunters.
Flint Fire: This move is telegraphed in advance by the Peco striking it’s wingtips together a couple of times. This is your cue to raise a shield or start running, because if he catches you with a mini explosion, you’re gonna feel it, especially if he’s hit you with the next move just before it.
- Mucosal Madness: A move Peco will only use when he’s in the air, Peco will roll his head and spit out three globules of green mucus. If any of these hit you, you’ll be afflicted with the DEF DOWN status, causing you to take more damage from every hit. To avoid, never stand in front of him while he’s in the air.
- The Chicken Chase: Usually performed only while enraged, the Peco will turn to face you before dashing wildly and attempting to peck you to death. Due to the multitude of hits, this move is better dodged than blocked, in case you run out of stamina.
- Warble: At least a million times per fight, the Peco will attempt to pull off either an imitation call or song. His song’s include healing songs and attack boosts, while his calls will attract more creatures to the fray. Throwing a sonic bomb will daze the Peco and prevent the song from finishing, as will flinching him. (Crag shots work well for that.)
